Greater Anglia, the train operator that runs a mix of suburban and express services from London to East Anglia, was named train operator of the year at the 15th Rail Business Awards, held last night (27 February) at the London Hilton, Park Lane.
The Dutch-owned operator received the prestigious accolade for its outstanding performance since it was awarded a two-year contract to run the new franchise in February 2012.
Operating 1,900 trains a day and carrying two million passengers a week, Greater Anglia has boosted customer service and delivered wide ranging improvements across the network in its first year of running the franchise.
More trains than ever are running on time and customers are also benefiting from other enhancements, including better information, new products, improvements to stations, integration with other public transport and a reduction in disruption caused by weekend engineering works.
Praising Greater Anglia for its winning entry, the judges said: “Performance during the first year of operation has been very impressive. This came across very clearly in its excellent submission.”
